When should parents seek either an IEP or 504 Plan for their child?

  • A 504 plan can be sought after if a student has a mental or physical limitation or handicap that significantly impacts one or more essential life activities, like learning, concentration, walking, social interactions, breathing and diet.
  • An IEP can be sought after if parents, teachers or school administration began to see educational or behavioral issues in students consistently, which then begin to affect grades, social skills and learning patterns.

What are some of the Myths of Having an IEP?

  • Depending on the severity of a situation students with IEP’s can be expelled, placed on home bound, or placed on a partial school day.
  • Students with IEP’s can fail if they just refuse to do any work, and or come to school daily.
